With 6 in 10 employees admitting that they are not working as efficiently as they could, how can we turn it around?
Well the good news is that the wider majority of employees want to give more but cite that a lack of communication and clear direction from Senior Management leaves them feeling lack lustre and unwilling to put in the extra effort.
“It’s widely accepted people performance is the biggest influence in business performance, yet as a nation we’re still not doing enough,” says Ashley Ward, director of European Leaders.
Despite the UK’s full time workforce working the longest hours in Europe, we are still less productive than both France and Germany (average for full timers in the UK is 43.5. In France it’s 38.2 and in Germany 39.9 hrs per week).
A staggering two thirds of people asked in European Leaders recent survey, stated they did not share a unified company vision, mainly due to management communication. This led them to feel disengaged from their employer and cultivated a negative working environment.
Less than a fifth (18%) of employees asked viewed the business they worked for as a good organisation.
So how can we engage the workforce and improve not only the working environment but also the bottom line?
Utilising your staff’s skills, investing in their development and increasing communication and transparency reaps rewards not only for the employee but also has an overwhelming positive response for the bottom line. Engaged staff add value to a business through positive customer experiences.
“The fact that people want to be more involved in their work and their company shows they think about their employer’s business and care about how they’re managed. They have more to give and opening the minds of management to fresh ideas can release a huge amount of energy and skill from the workforce” Ashley Ward, director of European Leaders.
