Part-time jobs in high demand!

Posted in Candidates, Employers on Mar 17, 2014 by Richard Hayden

Although a recent report on the UK labour market has shown the pool of candidates for employers to choose from is in decline, here at Key Appointments we are finding quite the opposite for part-time positions.

Research by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG also showed that salaries are rising at the fastest rate since 2007. There is also a significant shift from temporary roles being offered to permanent opportunities.

REC CEO Kevin Green said: "The number of candidates available to fill vacancies continues to fall and this is becoming a business critical issue in highly skilled roles. Recruiters are struggling to source the managerial and technical skills that employers require and this will only get worse as the economy strengthens."

Here at Key Appointments, we have started to see a steep increase in number of applications for part-time positions, particularly those for administrative and clerical posts. This is great news for the employer who can select the highest skilled and experienced workers, but not so great news for the applicants.

North England is one of the fastest growing areas for recruitment growth which has been driven largely by technology and engineering companies. What we would like to see is more part-time roles available to suit the demand out there.
