Sewing Machinist / Shop Floor Operator | Consett, County Durham
Part-time, Permanent | 30 hours per week, with some occasional overtime

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based in Consett and are looking for an experienced Sewing Machinist / Shop Floor Operator to join their production team.
 
This is a hands-on role supporting the manufacture of specialist test fabrics and ensuring customer orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and to a high standard.

The role combines sewing machine operation with wider shop floor production tasks.
 
 
ABOUT THE JOB

  • Operating flat sewing machines and overlockers to sew fabric strips
  • Following customer test sheets and work instructions accurately and consistently
  • Recording production information on check sheets
  • Reporting any non-conformances or quality issues
  • Carrying out basic sewing machine maintenance and troubleshooting minor faults
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working area
  • Meeting daily production targets while maintaining quality and accuracy
  • Working closely with the wider production team to resolve sewing-related issues
  • Adhering to all health and safety standards and company procedures
  • Supporting the wider production area when not sewing, including applying products to fabrics by hand and labelling fabric swatches
 
WHAT WE NEED
 
Essential
  • Proven experience operating flat sewing machines and overlockers
  • Background in a manufacturing, textile, or tailoring environment
  • Basic sewing machine maintenance knowledge
  • Ability to follow work instructions accurately and without deviation
  • High attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Desirable
  • Experience using a cover stitch sewing machine
