British workers: 'more flexible, competitive and efficent'...

Posted in Candidates, Employers on May 18, 2012 by Richard Hayden

Vauxhall owned General Motors (GM) has announced that it will be bringing the production of the next generation Astra to Elsmere Port in a controversial move away from German manufacturing. This move will not only saving an existing 2,100 jobs but will create around 700 more in addition.

A stark turn of events, as the Elsmere port manufacturing plant along with Bochum (Western Germany) had been marked as the most likely plants to close. The announcement sparked frantic lobbying and negotiations by British politicians and trade union officials lobbying to save the plant.

In addition it has been reported that American bosses at Vauxhall’s US parent company (GM) ‘judged that British workers were more flexible, competitive and efficient’ than their German counterparts. Sealing the deal and securing the future of the Elsmere plant whilst adding a welcome boost to the British manufacturing industry.
