Company values; making the difference?

Posted in Candidates on Jan 10, 2012 by Richard Hayden

When searching for your next career move how important is a company’s values? Does it affect your decision on joining the company? Would you be more motivated in your role if you agreed with the company's ethos?

The Sky Future Leaders Study launched today reports that nearly 80% of graduates, MBA students and middle managers state that vision and the values of a company is an important factor when deciding on a prospective employer.

A further 34% also commented that creating social and environmental value through business are an important aspect of their overall career goals.

The study launched on the 6th December will focus on 750 participants attitudes towards sustainability within society through their career; ‘a process which involves creating economic value in a way that also creates value for society and the environment by addressing their needs and challenges’.

However not all of the panellists involved were convinced of the current generation’s commitment to sustainability, in spite of the survey results. Leo Johnson, partner of Pricewaterhouse Cooper subsidiary Sustainable Finance commented that within the current generation consuming appeared to be more of a priority.

He went on to add however that, candidates who demonstrate such values could be very attractive to a prospective employer ‘you want someone who wants to get out of bed and do something’.
