Netreps: Making your Netrep work for you

Posted in Candidates on Oct 26, 2010 by Richard Hayden

If you attend Networking events or groups then utilising your online presence to the best of its abilities can really have an impact. With sites such as Linkedin specialising in Professional Networking it has never been easier.

You can make useful and constructive contacts, develop and build your working relationships and gain important industry information with relative ease. Online networking allows you to build contacts you may have not otherwise had the opportunity to meet, exposing you and your business to a wider audience which can only be positive.

Linkedin is a Professional focused networking site which is free to join and allows you to keep in touch with colleagues and clients in a more direct way than picking up the phone or arranging a catch up meeting. You can display as little or as much information as you feel comfortable with (but be warned this is a professional, business orientated site so make sure your content is relevant and suitable to the audience – clients, colleagues etc.)

One of the great things about Linkedin is that your account is specific to you not your company. Your clients / colleagues can give you recommendations in relation to work you have carried out to help substantiate your professional standing, therein making you more reputable and trustworthy. In addition should you choose to move on from your company your account would still be relevant and beneficial to you.

From an alternate point of view you can also use sites such as Linkedin to market yourself in a professional manner to prospective employers. There are options within Linkedin to add your employment history and education details onto your profile, when seen in conjunction with recommendations / testimonials it can differentiate you from other candidates, showing you in a different light than your CV.

We hope this brief introduction to professional networking sites has been beneficial for you, and should you choose to join Linkedin please feel free to connect with us.
