What's crowding your space?

We can all be victim to the mass of things pleading for our attention, the way that these can play with the mind can render us less efficient than we might otherwise be. If this is something that happens to you, here’s food for thought.

 

Anything that is left unfinished crowds the subconscious. It may eat away at your effectiveness and could remove all possibility of clarity of thought.


- Are you red-flagging messages in your inbox, hoping to get to them later?
- Do you have paperwork piling up?
- How about that stack of business cards which you meant to follow-up with?
- Have you received referrals and you just haven’t had time to get to them?

 

You can catch up. You can clear away the obstacles to your success.


You prove that to yourself every time you go on holiday, don’t you? How much work do you get done on the day before you go on vacation? And how much of what you cleared away left you wondering why you didn’t get it done earlier?

 

  • Consider creating a point in time each week to nail the things that need to be done. It’s important to do this, you are probably losing money because its not being done and great ideas or productive meetings that could come into being will just be hampered in the mire of your backlog.


 

  • Set a timer to 30 minutes and come hell or high water get as much stuff cleared away as possible. You need to treat this like a record breaking exercise. This is Gold Medal standard desk clearing.


 

  • If you need longer than 30 minutes, do it in stages, after the first stint, take 5 minutes out, walk around the building, get a glass of water, come back and set that timer for another 30 minutes.


 

During this vital productive time, do not check new email messages, do not answer the phone or pander to any other distraction, nothing must come between you and this great opportunity building habit. Remember, this is a race to success and the more you clear away, the more productive your output, the richer you will be in, thought, time and wealth.

The next thing you should do is set a point in your diary, this week and every week from here on, when you will go for that race against time and strive for the Gold Medal outcome you deserve.
