What Makes a Business Stand Out from the Crowd?

Posted in Company Culture, Recruitment on Jul 20, 2021 by Keeley Edge

Imagine your favourite places to shop, eat and enjoy yourself. Chances are the locations you chose were not unique within retail, catering or entertainment, so why did they come to mind? What makes them special? And how can you do the same to boost your own business - and attract the best possible talent in the process?

Standing out among the competition is one of the biggest challenges when running a business, but knowing how to identify and make the most of your unique selling points (USPs) can help you to attract and maintain a loyal client base, as well as the best possible new recruits. Here are three ways to improve your visibility.

Customer Service

Never underestimate the value of good customer service, nor who it applies to. Your customers are anyone who encounters your business – not just your consumers but also suppliers, distributers, contractors, your staff, and even potential new employees.

Think about their unique needs and desires and clearly communicate how your business can be of benefit. Negative experiences should be resolved quickly and fairly – own up to the problem, provide a suitable solution, and ensure the customer is happy with the result.

Feedback is essential and should be a two-way process. Provide opportunities for customers to give their opinion (such as online surveys) and find ways to show you have listened and made changes (for example, a social media post featuring a new product or system).

Innovative Ideas

Coming up with something new to set you apart from competitors is never easy. The most successful ideas are often as simple as giving your customers what they want. This is where customer care and feedback become even more crucial as they can lead to new concepts and innovations.

Also keep in mind the whole customer journey, from an initial search to the final purchase. Do you have an online shop or booking system? Is your Google My Business data current? Do you regularly keep in touch with customers or offer promotions? All these simple steps can have a big impact.

Digital Development

So you have a company website, a social media account, and know the difference between HTML and a hashtag – it’s a great start, but where do you go from here? From blogging and email marketing to adverts and influencers, there are many choices.

The most important part of your digital development should be building your brand identity through clear communication. No matter which platforms you use and how many accounts you have, they should all have a coherent company message to reflect your wider marketing strategy.

Keep in mind that the most effective digital campaigns are driven by communication. People love to learn, share and grow online, so think about ways you can demonstrate your sector expertise by using timely, entertaining and informative content.
